8 Dangers of backsliding
8 Dangers of backsliding
The dangers of backsliding are most exemplified by the fall of Adam and Eve as narrated in the Book of Genesis. Here are the 8 negative effects of turning away from God.
You will be turned away from God’s beautiful presence.
“Therefore, I will surely forget you and cast you out of my presence along with the city I gave to you and your ancestors.” Jeremiah 23:39
You will be covered with shame.
“Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding grain in the prison.” Judges 16:21
The Holy Spirit will depart from you, as the case was with King Saul.
“Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil[a] spirit from the Lord tormented him.” 1 Samuel 16:14
You will be covered in shame and guilt.
“So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.” Genesis 3:23
You will live a life of condemnation
You will open a door for darkness and demons to invade your previously bright life.
If you do not repent, you will slowly move away from the path to Heaven into a path to Hell.
You can turn back to God.
Here is what God says Jeremiah 15:19:
19 Therefore this is what the Lord says:
“If you repent, I will restore you
that you may serve me;
if you utter worthy, not worthless, words,
you will be my spokesman.
Let this people turn to you,
but you must not turn to them.
