Dear reader, it is forbidden in the Kingdom of God for a man to have more than one wife. Here are eight dangers of a Christian man having more than one wife.

What the Bible says.

First, the written word of God affirms that one man and only one woman will be united together in a holy marriage to form one flesh.

Listen to what the Bible says:

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a] and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’[b]?

Matthew 19:4-5

1. Interpersonal conflicts.

First, a man having more than one wife leads to interpersonal conflicts like jealousy, and potential negative emotional and psychological impacts on spouses and children. It can also lead to social difficulties, unequal power dynamics, and legal complications.

2. Gender inequality.

Second, having more than one wife can be linked to gender inequality, with co-wives potentially feeling subordinated to their husband.

3. Mental health issues.

Third, wives in polygamous families often report higher rates of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem due to unequal treatment, lack of attention, and constant comparison.

4. Emotional distress.

Furthermore, competition for the husband’s attention, resources, and affection can lead to tension and conflict among co-wives.

5. Financial strain.

Additionally, supporting multiple spouses and a larger number of children can be a significant financial burden, sometimes leading to the husband being unable to provide for all his families.

6. Logistical complexity.

Also, managing different households with multiple people and scheduling time with each spouse can be extremely complex and draining.

7. Negative outcomes for children.

Children may face a higher risk of emotional and psychological problems, lower academic achievement, and neglect due to a father’s inability to divide his time and resources equally.

8. Social exclusion.

The social structure of polygyny can create a class distinction between men who can have multiple wives and those who cannot, potentially leading to social problems.
