Dear reader, this article draws your attention to the similarities between serving God and serving a military commander.

Please note that this article refers to all recognized military commanders anywhere in the world.

1. Both God and the army commander hate cowards.

First, you cannot be a servant of God if you are a coward. In fact, God will never allow a cowardly person to enter heaven.

Listen to what the written word of God in the Bible says:

But the cowardly, will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

2. Both God and the army commander expect 100% obedience.

Second, when God sends you on a mission, he expects 100% obedience. God will deal with you harshly, even if you have obeyed 90%. This is exactly how He dealt with King Saul when he failed to obey everything God had told him to do.

In 1 Samuel 15:3, God commanded Saul to attack the Amalekites and completely destroy everything they had, including their king Agag.  God said to King Saul: “Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.

However, when Saul attacked the Amalekites, his army was unwilling to destroy everything.

Listen to what happened:

But Saul and the army spared [King] Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves[a] and lambs—everything that was good.

As a result of this disobedience, God rejected Saul as the king. God immediately replaced King Saul with an unknown young man named David.

Likewise, you must obey instructions 100% if you serve an army commander. Refusing to do so may result in severe punishment, demotion, imprisonment, or even death.

3. God and the army commander can impose severe punishments.

Third, both God and the army commader can impose harsh punishments on any disobedient servant. In Leviticus 26:14-39 God mentions more than ten severe punishments to any disobedient servant of his.

Similarly, disobedient army officers may be subjected to forced labour, demotion, salary reduction, being court-martialed, or execution.

4. Both God and the army commander love courageous persons.

Additionally, both God and the army commander love a brave person. In the case of God, He asked his son Jesus Christ to leave the luxurly in heaven and come and die on the cross for the sins of all the people on earth. Jesus fulfilled this mission and, as a result, God made Jesus sit on the right hand and exalted him to the highest place in heaven.

Likewise, King David, who commanded the army, surrounded himself only with brave soldiers. For example, Jashobeam, David’s chief officer, single-handedly killed 300 enemy soldiers in a single encounter.

Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, was another officer  close to King David who accomplished great exploits. He struck down the two mightiest warriors of Moab. He also went down into a pit and killed a lion (see David’s mighty soldiers 1 Chronicles 11:10-4).
