Dear reader, a name can determine the course of your entire life. In relation to this fact, this article shows why you should never adopt your parent’s surname.
Your parents’ enemies can automatically become yours.
First, if you adopt your parents’ surname, some – if not all – of your parents’ enemies may automatically become yours.
For example, you can imagine the suffering and torment Hitler’s children and grandchildren would face in society today if they had adopted the surname Hitler.
Some curses follow family names.
Second, we should know that some curses are passed down to future generations through family names. For example, you can easily guess what will happen to your daughter if you name her Delilah. She will always be leading men into temptation (see Judges chapter 16).
Therefore, it is better that you embark on a new life with new names.
Your parent’s weaknesses may become yours as well.
Third, if your parent had weaknesses and failures in life, it is very likely that you will inherit those weaknesses and failures if you adopt their name.
For example, if your father was a promiscuous person, you may inherit this trait as well. Haven’t you heard some people in your community say,
“She’s acting like her mother” or, “He acts like his father“?
Your destiny could be like theirs.
Additionally, if your parent’s fate was not good and you adopt their name, it is very likely that your destiny will resemble that of your parent.
Start a new life with a new name.
In conclusion, if you want to have a bright future, it is better that you start a new life with new names that will bless your life. This is exactly what God wanted Abraham to do. God wanted Abraham to break away from family names and curses.
In fact, God gave Abraham a new name which was different from the other names of his family.
