Dear reader, our Heavenly Father hates a proud heart and will punish anyone with this type of behavior as Proverbs 16:5 indicates. This article shares with you 10 signs of pride in a Christian.
The source of pride.
As the Holy Spirit is to our Heavenly Father, so is pride to Satan. In fact, pride arises when the spirit of God leaves someone and then the spirit of Satan enters that person.
1. Esteeming things that are an abdomination to God.
First, pride makes someone esteem those things that are an abnomination to God as indicated in Proverbs 6:16-19. Some of the things the Lord hates include a proud look [the attitude that makes one overestimate oneself and discount others], and a lying tongue.
Also God hates hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that creates wicked plans and feet that run swiftly to evil. Furthermore, God dislikes a false witness who breathes out lies [even half-truths], and a person that spreads discord (rumors) among brothers.
2. Justifying yourself to others.
Second, when you try to justify yourself to others, then pride has already entered your heart as indicated by our Lord Jesus Christ in Luke 16:15
He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.
God always wants us to convert and humble ourselves like a little child.
3. Loving self.
Pride is that evil spirit that never loves anything but self. Even when giving charity it is only done with the hope of promoting self.
4. Self preservation.
Pride is only mindful and conscious of things that pertain to self preservation
5. A heart that is far from God.
A proud person worships God with his lips but actually his heart is very far from our Lord Jesus Christ.
6. Self promotion.
A proud person always seeks to promote himself. He will never wait for God to promote him.
7. Refusing to take up the cross.
Pride opposes Jesus’s instruction to us to take up the cross and follow him.
8. Boasting.
Everything a proud person does is to seek that person’s own glory, goodness, fame, honor, praise, and gain the attention of others.
9. Controling others.
Furthermore, pride will always want you to control others. Proud people insist on having things their way, even when it comes to small issues that are a matter of personal choice.
Secondly they refuse to accept blame, and they always want to be the center of attention. Most important, a proud person wants to be in the limelight regardless of the circumstances.
10. Exaltation.
Also, pride will always want you to exalt yourself above those around you..
