7 reasons to pray before you eat

Our Father in Heaven has given you spiritual power through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Satan and demons are always devising ways to extinguish that divine power within you, and one of the ways is by contaminating the food you eat. Satan can defile the food you eat using individuals who produce it on the farm, those who process it, those who transport it to the markets, and those who cook it before you eat.  In addition to this, there are other reasons why we should always pray for food.

Below I give you 7 reasons to pray before you eat.

1. Thanking God, the provider of our food.

We daily pray to God that He gives us our daily bread. Jesus instructed to always pray as follows:

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]      Mathew 6:9-13

So, when He provides it on the table, we must thank Him.

2. Jesus always prayed and gave thanks before eating.

“Then Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to those who were seated; the same also with the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 When they had eaten enough, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the leftover pieces so that nothing will be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up, and they filled twelve large baskets with pieces from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the sign (attesting miracle) that He had done, they began saying, “This is without a doubt the promised Prophet who is to come into the world!

                                                                                     John 6:11-14

3. When you pray for food, all evil spirits flee.

Sometimes demons plant curses on food. The result is instead of being blessed, this food brings you sickness. Your prayer will drive away all those curses.

4. Your prayer will sanctify the food.

5. Your prayer will neutralize any poison that may be in the food.

In 2 Kings 2:19-22  Elisha prayed for poisoned water and it became pure and safe for drinking:

“The people of the city said to Elisha, “Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive.”

20 “Bring me a new bowl,” he said, “and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him.

21 Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’” 22 And the water has remained pure to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.”

6. By thanking God for the food, you are honoring Him, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

7. By thanking God, you are encouraging Him to multiply whatever you have and even blessing you with more.

“So they gathered them up, and they filled twelve large baskets with pieces from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the sign (attesting miracle) that He had done, they began saying, “This is without a doubt the promised Prophet who is to come into the world!”   John 6:13-14
