God has many ways to tell people that He is calling them to serve Him. Many see these signs and are confused, not knowing what to do. Others have so many doubts about whether it is really God speaking to them. This article gives you seven signs that show God is calling you to ministry.

God may use dreams.

First, Heavenly Father can use dreams. Hear what the Bible says about Joseph’s ministry:

Now Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they [a]hated him even more. He said to them, “Please listen to [the details of] this dream which I have dreamed; we [brothers] were binding sheaves [of grain stalks] in the field, and lo, my sheaf [suddenly] got up and stood upright and remained standing; and behold, your sheaves stood all around my sheaf and bowed down [in respect].” His brothers said to him, “Are you actually going to reign over us? Are you really going to rule and govern us as your subjects?” So they hated him even more for [telling them about] his dreams and for his [arrogant] words.

   Genesis 37:5-8

God may use visions.

Secondly, God may use supernatural visions to call you into Christian ministry. Hear what the Bible says:

As he traveled he approached Damascus,

and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him [displaying the glory and majesty of Christ];

and he fell to the ground and heard a voice [from heaven] saying to him,

“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting and oppressing Me?”

And Saul said, “Who are You, Lord?”

And He answered,

“I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, now get up and go into the city,

and you will be told what you must do.”

   Acts 9:3-6

God can use His prophets.

Third, God can use His prophets to tell you what your ministry is.

Many years ago, before I even thought about starting this ministry, I was at the very back of a packed church of about 1,000 people.

As the service was going on, I was speechless when a prophet of God ministering from the pulpit (which was about 20 yards away) pointed to the back of the congregation where I was sitting and said,

You man seated at the back over there, God is calling you to ministry

Since the pulpit was far, I thought that maybe he was pointing at my neighbor. He again pointed at me even describing my face. He continued:

God is calling you, but you are still hesitating. I see you with a pen writing, and writing, and writing. God says you know what to write. Start doing what God told you to do now.

God may use His Rhema word from the Scriptures.

Additionally, God can use His Rhema word from the Bible to inform you that He wants to use you.

During my early years of training, wherever I felt reluctant to pray God would mysteriously lead me to the book of  2 Chronicles Chapter 29.  Verse 11 would always come into my eyes:

My sons, do not be negligent and careless now,

for the Lord has chosen you to stand in His presence,

to attend to His service,

and to be His ministers and burn incense.

You can get a lot of problems.

Also, you can get a lot of problems in life because of your refusal to respond to God’s calling. This is exactly what happend to Jonah. Hear what the Bible says:

Now the word of the Lord came to [a]Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, “Go to [b]Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim [judgment] against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.” But Jonah ran away to Tarshish to escape from the presence of the Lord [and his duty as His prophet]. He went down to [c]Joppa and found a ship going to [d]Tarshish [the most remote of the Phoenician trading cities]. So he paid the fare and went down into the ship to go with them to Tarshish away from the presence of the Lord.

But the Lord hurled a great wind toward the sea, and there was a violent tempest on the sea so that the ship was about to break up. Then the sailors were afraid, and each man cried out to his god; and to lighten the ship [and diminish the danger] they threw the ship’s cargo into the sea. But Jonah had gone below into the hold of the ship and had lain down and was sound asleep.

 Jonah 1:1-5

God may send His messengers to you.

Furthermore, God can instruct His messenger to come and talk to you.

For example, God called my wife to start a church in her rural village where she was born, but she was always giving excuses. Then God started sending messengers to her shop where she was conducting her businesses. They were telling her:

God is telling you that this is not what He wants you to do. Go and start a church in your home village.

After about three messengers, my wife’s business completely collapsed.

God may call you through miracles or some strange occurrences.

Interestingly, I have seen many ministers of God whose ministries started after being miraculously healed.

Thanks alot for this, how can I reach out to you for more counceling on this calling of a thing. It was as if you wrote this article for just me.

Brother Tobi, if you feel God is calling you to ministry, then look more to God who is calling you and look less at people. If you look more at people they will confuse you. This is the mistake I made also. I was running from one God’s minister to another until I realised that they were not giving me proper guidance. My suggestion is that you daily pray to God asking him what he wants you to do. He will guide you step by step until his calling upon your life blossoms.

      Dear Brother Albert,

I am glad you were blessed by the article. My advice is that you seek God more, instead of reaching out to me. God who is calling you is more important. People may confused. Talk to him personally, he will guide you.
