7 signs God is calling you to ministry
God uses many ways to tell individuals that He is calling them to serve Him. Many see these signs and get confused not knowing what to do. Others get so many doubts as to whether it is actually God talking to them. Below I give you 7 signs God is calling you to ministry.
- God may use dreams.
“Now Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they [a]hated him even more. 6 He said to them, “Please listen to [the details of] this dream which I have dreamed; 7 we [brothers] were binding sheaves [of grain stalks] in the field, and lo, my sheaf [suddenly] got up and stood upright and remained standing; and behold, your sheaves stood all around my sheaf and bowed down [in respect].” 8 His brothers said to him, “Are you actually going to reign over us? Are you really going to rule and govern us as your subjects?” So they hated him even more for [telling them about] his dreams and for his [arrogant] words.” Genesis 37:5-8
2. God may use visions.
As he traveled he approached Damascus,
and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him [displaying the glory and majesty of Christ];
4 and he fell to the ground and heard a voice [from heaven] saying to him,
“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting and oppressing Me?”
5 And Saul said, “Who are You, Lord?”
And He answered,
“I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, 6 now get up and go into the city,
and you will be told what you must do.” Acts 9:3-6
3. God may use His prophets
Many years ago, before I ever thought of starting this ministry, I was at the very back of a fully packed Church of about 1000 people.
As the service proceeded, I was left speechless when a prophet of God who was ministering at the pulpit (which was about 20 meters away) pointed at the very back of the congregation where I was sitting and said:
“You man seated at the back over there, God is calling you to ministry“. Since the pulpit was far, I thought that maybe he was pointing at my neighbor. He again pointed at me even describing my face. He continued:
“God is calling you, but you are still hesitating. I see you with a pen writing, and writing, and writing. God says you know what to write. Start doing what God told you to do now”
4. God may use His Rhema word from the Scriptures.
“My sons, do not be negligent and careless now,
for the Lord has chosen you to stand in His presence,
to attend to His service,
and to be His ministers and burn incense.”
5. You may get a lot of problems in life because of your refusal to respond to God’s calling.
“Now the word of the Lord came to [a]Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 “Go to [b]Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim [judgment] against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.” 3 But Jonah ran away to Tarshish to escape from the presence of the Lord [and his duty as His prophet]. He went down to [c]Joppa and found a ship going to [d]Tarshish [the most remote of the Phoenician trading cities]. So he paid the fare and went down into the ship to go with them to Tarshish away from the presence of the Lord.
4 But the Lord hurled a great wind toward the sea, and there was a violent tempest on the sea so that the ship was about to break up. 5 Then the sailors were afraid, and each man cried out to his god; and to lighten the ship [and diminish the danger] they threw the ship’s cargo into the sea. But Jonah had gone below into the hold of the ship and had lain down and was sound asleep.” Jonah 1:1-5
6. God may send His messengers direct to you.
God called my wife to start a church in her rural village where she was born, but she was always giving excuses. Then God started sending messengers to her shop where she was conducting her businesses. They were telling her:
“God is telling you that this is not what He wants you to do. Go and start a church in your home village” After about three messengers, my wife’s business completely collapsed.
7. God may call you through miracles or some strange occurrences.
I have seen many ministers of God whose ministries started after being miraculously healed.
