Dear reader, if you feel like giving up due to demonic attacks or spiritual opposition, listen to this first. The devil was so afraid of the planned sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross that he mobilized the most powerful attack ever against Jesus. The attacking spiritual force was so great that you can give it any high number you want. It could even have been higher than the 666 million indicated in this article.
Our Lord Jesus Christ was under so much demonic attack and oppression that he felt like giving up on his divine mission.
Satan chose his best army.
The devil chose his best army of principalities, rulers, and authorities of darkness to attack Jesus by discouraging him from dying on the cross.
They told Jesus like this:
Your death won’t change anything.
It is better you give up, than suffer without gain.
Jesus felt the intensity of this spiritual attack.
As Jesus Christ prepared to pray, he felt the intensity of this spiritual attack, feeling deeply distressed and troubled, as this Bible verse indicates:
He took Peter, James and John along with him,
and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.
Jesus felt like giving up.
During this attack, Jesus Christ thought about the torture, humiliation and physical pain he would face. He was convinced that he must renounce the mission of sacrificing his life on the cross.
Listen to what Jesus Christ said:
Going a little farther, he fell to the ground
and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.
“Abba,[a] Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you.
Take this cup from me.
Yet not what I will, but what you will.
Mark 14:35-36
Jesus Christ used the weapon of prayer.
There was still one weapon in Jesus’ hands to fight against Satan’s army. This was the weapon of prayer, and he used it to defeat this great attacking demonic force.
Through this weapon, Jesus’ soul was strengthened and his faith in paying the price for our sins was elevated.
