Facts you didn’t know about serving God.
Dear reader, there are a few things I would like to share with you about God’s calling. Many Christians get confused because they are not aware of the facts about God’s calling I am about to share with you.
God’s calling starts in Heaven, not on Earth.
First, when God calls someone into ministry on earth, that call started long time ago, before that person is born. God makes these plans in Heaven well in advance, and he even chooses the family in which that person will be born.
This is why Jesus instructed all Christians to pray like this everyday:
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Mathew 6:10
When you pray like this, you are requesting God to implement things on Earth as he planned them long ago in Heaven.
Take the example of Moses. God had planned in advance in heaven that within the tribe of Levi would be born a child who would deliver the children of Israel from Egypt. Everything that followed after Moses’s birth was in line with what God had already planned in Heaven. Like many Christians today, Moses had so many excuses for not serving God. At one time God was filled with a lot of anger because of Moses’s excuses. God could have used Aaron because he was bolder; but this assignment was already allocated by Heaven to Moses.
Before I was born, God planned that I would write for his Kingdom. Therefore I am not surprised that at all the levels in my education, my tendency has aligned more towards writing – until I finally wrote for God’s Kingdom.
God chose you.
Second, God gives each person on earth their own assignment, according to the abilities he gives them. God chose you for the assignment he has given you. He did not choose any other person to do it. You cannot start telling God to give your assignment to someone else. When God called my wife to start a church in her home district, she started giving many excuses. I remember one time she prayed like this:
Lord, I am just a woman; men will despise me. And I don’t think I can manage rural village life. There are so many men in my home area. Please select one of these men to build that church.
God could not answer her prayer because he choose my wife for this work – before she was born.
You cannot run away from God’s assignment.
Third, because God planned your assignment in Heaven, before you were born, you cannot run away from that assignment. This is what happened to Jonah. God planned his assignment before he was born. For this reason it was very difficult for Jonah to run away from this task. Even if Jonah had escaped to the Moon, God would have followed him there.
You cannot steal someone’s ministry.
I have seen some Christians who fail to understand their own calling and, instead, want to “steal” another person’s ministry. You will fail miserably if you do this because God did not plan that ministry for you.
No one can overcome you.
Also, when God assigns you a particular ministry on earth, and you walk according to his ways, then be assured that no one can fight and overcome you. Not even Satan and demons. Your enemies will not be fighting you; they will instead be fighting God himself.
Your ministry cannot fail.
When God gives you an assignment on earth, and you walk according to his ways, then that ministry cannot fail. This is exactly what Gamaliel, a Pharisee teacher of the law told those who were planning to persecute the Apostles. He told them:
Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.
Acts 5:38-39.
Your call cannot be inherited.
Your exact ministry cannot be inherited by family members or relatives. You cannot write in your Will that I want to pass on my anointing to so and so. God expects those after you to do greater things than what you have achieved. This is exactly what Jesus Christ told his apostles:
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
John 14:12
Your call is irrevocable.
When God assigns you a ministry and you fail to take it up, it remains yours until you change your mind to serve God.
