Many Christians do not understand why Jesus told us to always ask God not to lead us into temptation. Here is the true meaning of “Lead us not into temptation”

First, the phrase “lead us not into temptation” is actually a vital plea for divine protection within a celestial legal system.

God’s heavenly court room.

The Bible reveals that there is a heavenly court chaired by our Heavenly Father. In this courtroom, Satan serves as the “accuser of our brothers and sisters,”. The devil tirelessly brings charges against believers day and night (Revelation 12:10).
We see this divine procedure in the book of Job, where Satan must seek explicit permission from God before he can touch a believer’s life or property. Satan is constantly petitioning the Father for the right to “sift” Christians like wheat, hoping to prove their faith is shallow and move them toward ruin.

You can daily enter God’s heavenly  court with a petition.

When you pray, “lead us not into temptation,” you are entering this heavenly courtroom with a specific petition. This petition enables you to ask our Heavenly Father, as the Supreme Judge, to deny Satan’s requests to put you under great trials.God Himself tempts no one (James 1:13). However, He does hold the authority to grant or withhold permission for Satan to test us.

You are asking God not to permit Satan to tempt you.

By making this request daily, you express your humility and dependence on God’s sovereignty. You are essentially asking the Father to act as your shield. You are asking God to withhold the “green light” from the enemy and spare you from trials that might exceed our current strength.
It is a prayer for mercy, asking God to keep Satan at bay. You ask God to provide the “way of escape” He promised.
Ultimately, asking God not to lead you into temptation is an act of trust. You place your safety in the hands of the only Judge who can silence the accuser.

The weapon to stop Satan is actually found in Luke 11:4
