Dear reader, this article humbly wishes to correct the people of God who would like to quote scriptures from the Bible. For God’s sake don’t say “The Apostle Paul said…” when referring to the Bible.

The real meaning of “The Apostle Paul said…

First, when you say that “Apostle Paul said...” when referring to God’s written word in the Bible, you are implying that the Bible verses you are quoting were written by man, not God.

Also, when you say that “Apostle Paul said…“, you are making God’s written word in the Bible powerless since it is associated with man rather that God.

Thirdly, when you say that “Apostle Paul said…“, you are totally taking God our Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit out of the picture.

Furthermore, when you say that “Apostle Paul said...”, you are honoring man rather that our Heavenly Father.

The written word in the Bible was inspired by our Heavenly Father.

The written word in the Bible was inspired by our Heavenly Father.

As a matter of fact, the Bible is unique because it is God’s revelation recorded in human language. According to 2 Timothy 3:16 the words of Scripture are “God breathed” or inspired by God:

All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration]

Therefore, this implies that God is the source or origin of what is recorded in Scripture. God, through the Holy Spirit, used human authors to write what He revealed in the Bible.

Certainly, the Holy Spirit guided and controlled the writers of Scripture, who used their own vocabularies and styles but wrote only what the Holy Spirit intended.

How our Lord Jesus Christ quoted the Scriptures.

As a matter of fact, while referring to Scripture, our Lord Jesus Christ never referred to any author of a particular Book of the Bible.

Everytime Jesus quoted Scripture he said like this:

It is written…

To confirm this see Matthew 4:4, Matthew 4:7, Matthew 4:10, Matthew 21:13.

Correct ways to quote the Bible.

Therefore, if we are to follow the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us refer to the written word of God in the Bible in any of the following ways:

1. It is written…

2. According to the written word of God in the Bible…

3. The Bible says…

4. God says in the Bible…

5. The written word of God in the Bible says…

Never say “The Apostle Paul said…” when referring to the Bible.

Gracias por esta reflexión. Soy creyente de la Biblia y he cometido ese error. No volveré a repetirlo. Un abrazo, en Cristo.
