Dear reader, the Lord’s Prayer is very powerful. Here are the reasons why the Lord’s Prayer proves powerless to many Christians.
A religious duty.
To begin with, most Christians recite the Lord’s Prayer to fulfill a religious duty. They view it as a ritual or a tradition. They do not utter it from the depths of their hearts. Consequently, the prayer lacks power when they recite it.
A poem.
Furthermore, most Christians do not treat the Lord’s Prayer as a genuine prayer. They regard it as a poem. They memorize the words and recite them aloud, as if shouting to God. They do not maintain a personal, intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father. In fact, most Christians recite the Lord’s Prayer without any real spiritual communion with God.
Weariness.
Moreover, most Christians have simply grown weary of the Lord’s Prayer. They are already convinced that it lacks power. They are now convinced praying it is a waste of time. As a result, the prayer has no impact on their lives.
Misunderstanding the meaning of each verse.
Finally, the Lord’s Prayer has lost all meaning for most Christians because they do not understand the significance of its individual verses. For instance, when they pray, “Lead us not into temptation,” they do not realize they are asking our Heavenly Father not to allow Satan to come and tempt them. Also, they do not realise that when they say: “Let your Kingdom come“, they are actually driving away the kingdom of Satan.
A lack of meditation.
Finally, most Christians recite the Lord’s Prayer without meditating on each verse. For example, when they pray, saying “Our Father who art in heaven,” they do not realize that they are addressing the Creator of the entire universe—the God of Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac. The God who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Jesus should not perish but have eternal life.
